Throwing in the Towel

Sometimes, you just have to throw your hands up and walk away from some situations. And this past week, I finally realized I was in one of those situations. Remember this post about having too many friends???? Well this week, I finally realized that the guy who said he wanted to be friends was just too much for me to handle. And I have been confused with the situation ever since. He wanted to be friends yet his actions (mostly texts) said otherwise. I wasn't into this blurred line friendship and as one of my friends so eloquently put it- "we are at different places in our lives and I'm not sure what value as a friend he brings to the table." This is exactly how I started to feel. Every text he sent left me with that "ugh... what does he want now" feeling. And his late night texts were just annoying me. I finally realized that when you get annoyed at someone texting you, they probably shouldn't be part of your life. I want to be going somewhere and he just wants to have no expectations and float through life. So I told him that I didn't really think we were on the same page.

And then he called me judgmental. And couldn't back it up with any examples.

Now, I know that I can be judgmental in certain situations. Everyone can at some point in their life. But I think with him, I have been more than accommodating and open minded. I've listened to him vent about his crappy situation over and over again only to never have him ask me what's going on in my life. I realized that I knew so much about him and he knew very little about me. And to call someone you hardly know anything about judgmental is a really big insult. I try to be open minded and accepting of everyone.

And then all of a sudden the friendship just became a burden. So I did a friendship breakup. Do I feel bad? Yes. Am I upset? A little. Was it what is best for me? Yes. I came to the realization that I want and have real friends in my life. This particular individual can't be that for me right now. He's trying to rebuild himself and we are just at very different points in our lives. We crossed the line and neither of us can just take it back and be friends.

So I figured out the answer to my question. Yes, you can have too many friends. I'd rather have a few close friends that I can 100% trust with everything than a bunch of friends that I don't have the time or effort for. The moral of the story is to choose wisely.

And I'll leave you with this little gem. It's exactly what I'm wanting.

Finally Feeling Like Friday

This past week has been an insanely crazy week! I had sorority stuff on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. I am so thrilled next week is spring break. I get a short break and time to catch up on life (and sleep).

Rodeo also started this week. And since I'm on the Wine Sales Committee, I had a few obligations as well as I get to go to all of the shows for free. Sunday was my final obligation with the committee and they had the 2014 Champion Wine Auction. This event was AMAZING! In just 3 short hours, they auctioned off $1.6 million in wine. The Grand Champion Wine went for $230,000. It was so cool to see people bidding thousands of dollars for wine. The proceeds (which is most of it) goes towards scholarships for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. This was such a fun event and I'm so glad I got to be a part of it!

Tuesday was Fat Tuesday and to celebrate at work, we had king cake. Interesting fact- for liability reasons, a lot of bakers don't hide the baby anymore. They give you the baby and make you hide it. We didn't hide the baby at work. But the king cake was so yummy! I could go for another king cake right about now.

And the Wednesday kicked off my busy rodeo season. I went to the Eli Young Band with my coworker, Marisa, and we had a blast. It was a little cold and rainy but other than that, the show was awesome. With my badge, I get to go to all of the shows for free. If there are empty seats, then I get to sit in them. We sat on the main level about 3/4 of the way up and could see pretty well. I'm excited to go to about 14 more shows this season. Chris Young is on Saturday and the REO Speedwagon is next Monday. I'm skipping Usher tonight and Selena Gomez on Sunday. They just aren't my cup of tea. Let the RODEO fun begin!!!

Reviewing February and moving on to March

Last night at the sorority meeting, the girls had a speaker and she talked about goal setting. She reminded me that the goals need to be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound). When I was teaching, I used to set SMART goals for my class all the time so it makes sense that you can apply it to your own life. Her talk also reminded me that I needed to review the goals I set in February and set some March goals. I think all of my goals except #1 are SMART. I'd like to think I did rather well in most areas throughout February and am hoping to continue with some of them this month. So let's review!

February Goals Reviewed:
1. Look for a new job
  • I was looking. And even had some good things come from it. But the hunt continues.
2. Pay off one credit card
  • I'm about $200 away from paying one of them off. That will definitely be happening this month.
3. Have 4 nights in the month where there is nothing planned (ideally one per week).
  • I'll give myself a C in this. I was busy. Last week was crazy busy. But I also spent last Friday shopping with my mom for new boots so I count that as having nothing planned.
4. No soda for the entire month
  • I started off strong and then fell off the wagon. I've definitely cut back a lot and I think I only went to McDonalds once the entire month which is HUGE for me. It's a work in progress.
5. Do not buy breakfast at any fast food place for the entire month
  • Same thing with the soda. I did really well the first 2 weeks and then found myself in the work cafeteria eating breakfast a few times. And had a few Taco Cabana runs. I'd give myself a C+ in this category.
6. Only buy food in the work cafeteria once a week
  • With the exception of last week, I did awesome at this. But then I ran out of time to go grocery shopping so I had nothing to bring for lunch and had to eat in the cafeteria.
7. Track my spending habits
  • I was awesome at this. I'll give myself an A+. I am definitely more aware of where my pennies are going and will definitely continue on with this.
And now moving into March. March is going to be super busy with the rodeo in town. So I'm setting some very realistic goals for myself so I'm not setting myself up for failure.
  1. Attempt the no soda thing from now on (I already failed if you include the first 4 days of March)
  2. Continue to track my spending habits
  3. Continue the job search
  4. Finish paying off the February credit card
  5. Read at least one fun book
  6. Bring my lunch at least 3 times a week (and since I bought my lunch yesterday and today, I guess I need to go to the store tonight!)

We'll see how it goes with it being such a crazy month! I'll check back in at the end of March for a little recap!
